Google ate my brain, and I’m ok with that

(But I think I already said that a few years ago. In the first of tonight’s “other news”-es, that really was a few years ago. Snap.)

Finally re-acquired my photos (yay!) yesterday, so tonight I loaded the least-crappy ones onto Picasa. I had no idea that, since I last checked, Google’s web album service had gained the things I asked for (tagging, video support, & easier organization). Granted, it’s been like… a year… since I thought about it. So that’s nifty.

Three albums cover the summer; at the moment they’re not public so just bookmark or some such.

Eventually I will get around to georeferencing* locations, tagging things and writing captions - really.
*I’m a geography major, I can actually use that word legally.

Side note: has the horizontal rule (<hr> tag) been deprecated, or is my current code just wonky? I’m curious, yet too lazy to find out.

As promised, in other news: for the non-Auburn characters, work & class started back this week. Work went well; we have a new guy who seems like he’ll make it on our little funny farm. I don’t think I actually got to sit in the office for more than 5 minutes Thursday, and I ran around not one, but two, buildings - yay first week goodness. I’m fairly ambivalent over class. I think I have finally, finally reached acceptance of the fact that ‘holy crap, this is my last semester here’. The heavens opened, rain fell, thunder shouted it’s approval.

And finally, in other, other news: Ryan North has an awesome hat, but really needs a tan. For serious.

About this entry

Off the bum-rack, for a while

So I’ve started classes here at Auburn: and if you get text messages in the Auburn area, you’ve probably heard me say YOUR CAMPUS SUXX0RS about three times this week. It still does, for the record. Not a fan, kthxbye. But yeah, taking as many hours as They will allow, in the hopes of leaving ASAP. Don’t ask what my major is. Please, just, um, don’t.

Also keeping occupied with tutoring: I feed that bug via seeing a highschool kid every day for an hour or so — he’s fresh out of Korea, been here about three weeks; I absolutely adore him. And no, I’m not projecting my entire summer class onto him at all, not one bit. And then on Wed. nights I help teach a TOEFL-prep class to a bunch of folks in Auburn, but that just started last night - so we’ll see how it goes.

Ok, but the main news is: SARA GOTS A JORB, YO. Finally. Even though some of the tutoring pays, it’s not much. I needs monay. So now I work here, apparently. Ha ha, look at you try to click ‘here’, yeah right. (what, it’s 6am, I’m easily amused…). But essentially, a company based in Auburn that works with sportsy-folk in the US, and sells them expensive tech stuff. If you are a Power That Be’s with a high school or college sports team around the nation, and you owe moneys, I will be the one calling you to be all, GIMME MONEYS, BIATCH. Yeah. That’s me. 8am. Wake up, pay up.

So yeah: totally not that great, but better than delivery or restaurant work — which apparently is all that hires part-time in Auburn this time of year. Trust me, I looked everywhere this week.

That’s it for this week’s news — those of you who pray; another big change is on the horizon, with any luck (luck?) there’ll be an update on it in a day or two. Keep it in mind.

And yes. I have yet to post any follow-ups about China. I realize this. It’s less a matter of laziness or procrastination, more a matter of… well, procrastination, but in the sense of putting-this-off-because-I’m-not-wanting-to-deal. It’s really, really strange to process and synthesise all of everything, and there’s some part of me that doesn’t want to finalise it by getting it on virtual paper. So there. (However, photos have been flickr’d. Go view to your little heart’s content.)

Tales of a Professional Bum, v2

So today was officially my last day at Ye Olde Jorb, hooray, hoorah, boo, etc. The original ‘plan’ was to take the next 7 weeks or so off for CHINA, then return for part-time work when classes started back up; um, well, that didn’t quite come to fruition, and many thanks to the jorb-gods for such.

Anyhow. Long story, dwarfing thereof: my (EX=FTW!)boss is terarded. Um, the end.

Actually, yes. I typed out plenty of ranting and raving, but, yeah. That sums it up. Anyhow, someday I’ll grow up, be a real boy, find a cubicle, all that jazz. Until then, I’ll pack my bags and fly away on a jetplane.

Second star, and so on. Until then: holy shitfuck, batman — I can make a damn good latte.

For my last day at work…

…I wish to wear this. For the entire shift. Bonus points if I can request coworkers-du-jour.

In other news: Sara caves; watching a reality show through to finale. Yes, really. Oh, the large sea lions.

Edit: Um. No. I’m not quitting; though I am open to suggestions.

Preoccupation

Many a distraction on the brain of late: not the least of which is that shiny new heroin addiction (not to be confused with the decrepit, ancient, crack addiction…) — thanks again to Shanon. Or no thanks to him, I’m not sure which: it’s one of those love-hate things. In either case, most of my recent non-working moments have been consumed thusly.

Speaking of work: long afternoons with no customers does not a sane mind make, apparently. Small snippets overheard become the funniest lines evar. Two stereotypical frat boys came in the other day, and were discussing their female acquaintances:
“See man, girls are like music albums. See, Amy is like the new Death Cab for Cutie album: you wanna listen to it all the freakin’ time, and you have a copy in your car, and everything’s cool — until the next album. Natalie, though, she’s like classic Zeppelin. You keep it around because — I mean, who wouldn’t?! And sure, you might have it in your car, and listen to it once in a while, but not every time you drive. But you don’t just throw it away. That’s just wrong.”
I swear. I wiped down the adjacent tables many a time just to hear the end of it… I mean come on. That was great. It’s like Collegiate Zen of Disposable Relationships.

Oh, and on the list of Fun Things Overheard/Seen at Work: the TV in the corner is perpetually tuned to either ESPN or Fox News: hooray for Sara. Blargh. This week has been a high-ranking news week, apparently, or else a low-ranking sports week — in either case, I actually know what’s going on in the world (relatively). However… even the newsfolk get bored in the afternoons. A full 20 minutes the other day was devoted to the following headline — in bold, capital letters:
Does Hollywood Treat Albinos Worse Than Conservatives?

Ok. What. The. Fuck. Ye Olde Coworker and I had a serious Twilight Zone moment when we saw that: we gawped for a full minute or two going “are you seeing this?… yes, it really says that.” It wasn’t merely a scrolling headline in passing either; oh no, they had multiple interviews, expert commentary, and video clips. It was a full piece. My question: is it asking whether Hollywood treats the folk in question worse than it treats Conservatives, or else whether Hollywood treats albinos worse than Conservatives do? Because the latter is totally the more entertaining of the two. Score points for EVAL CONSERVATIVE VENDETTAS against the pigmentally challenged.

Anyhow. In other news: Auburn Spring Break is good news for those of us who work in campus-oriented shops: I get most of the week off, because the damn place is actually closing for break. W00t.

So, obviously, I’m headed South. Happily. Yes, I fully realize most of the past few entries have basically documented these quasi-bimonthly trips. See this face?
>_>
It doesn’t care.

But it is content: and for that, grateful.

Huh.

[Yes… apparently it’s that time of season again: I’ve devolved into short, meaningless post titles. Hooray.]

So… huh. I had a good day today. Yes. Me. Myself. I did.

Apparently it’s good to get steaming piles of shite out in the open, instead of shoving bitterness down into your subconsious, where it’s free to fester unrequited. Who’da thunk? Also, acknowledgment of non-hatred is awesome. Yes, You.

Anyhow. In other news: my boss is a very good person… regardless of the fact that I didn’t request off days officially in advance, he gave me a 5-day weekend for spring break, to drive South and visit the peoplez. (And The Peasants Rejoiceth. Yay.)

Oh, because you all know you loves it: DOOM KITTY 2: Electric Boogaloo.
