Viral Addictions

For those of you who currently watch, have watched, or have remotely considered being associated with someone who watches, LOST…

I have to say: the current “Lost Experience” viral search-slash-game-slash-advertising dealio going on is, by far, the most awesomest (yes, I totally just said that) modern ARG scheme, ever. I mean seriously. I put moderate effort into past schemes (my longstanding favorite of which was/is the “Serenity Video Leaks”; to which are permanently granted “TEH BETS EVAR” status — via rights to sentemental longetivity).

But good freaking gods. I am completely in awe of the depth of this entire thing. Every little bit leads to an exponential amount of teasers and such: enough to make me wonder how massively huge this thing will be in the end. Forget the Beast, forget Bee-philia. I mean seriously: binary code in the source of an RSS feed, which then translates into a URL? That’s dork-cool.

And yes. I fully realize that I have, temporarily, become a complete and utter sell-out, caving to the pressures of unlimited funding and mass marketing. Ordinarily, that would bother me… but I’m having too much fun in the meanwhile to care.
